With the release of "Your Place or Mine" right around the corner, we already have a solid idea of what Aline Brosh McKenna has in store for Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher, and their esteemed co-stars. Given its headliners, "Your Place or Mine" will be undoubtedly steeped in the late-90s and early aughts energy. But McKenna may be seeking to subvert that energy with a more modern take on the genre formula. Per the film's synopsis, Witherspoon and Kutcher play Debbie and Peter, longtime friends who seemingly took things well past platonic when they first met.
Two decades later, Debbie (now a single mom) lives in Los Angeles, while the perpetually single Peter calls New York home. When Peter needs to head West for business, he offers to look out for Debbie's teenage son Jack (Wesley Kimmel), so she can take a life-break back East. As Peter bonds with Jack, the plot thickens considerably when Debbie begins seeing the hunky Theo (Jesse Williams). That twist soon leads Debbie and Peter to question whether their friendship might not be something more.
