Pink is not the only one who doesn't hold "Spongebob's Truth of Square" in the most flattering light. The episode's release in 2009 brought with it an array of mixed opinions, with many critics dissing on live action segments in particular. While some sources such as Animation World Network enjoyed "Truth of Square," others such as Judge Roy Hrab of DVD Verdict, found the episode as a whole to be lackluster, especially the live-action scenes, stating, "The Patchy interludes and reliance on cameos merely draws attention to the episode's lack of substance."
Nevertheless, the episode, and Pink's part in particular, have been viewed more warmly by fans over the years. Pink's song, "We've Got Scurvy," was included in the 2009 re-issue of the "Spongebob's Greatest Hits" album alongside fan favorites tunes such as "Campfire Song Song" and "The Best Day Ever." In a Reddit thread reacting to Pink's LA Times interview, fans defended the number passionately, such as u/AlexSummersFan who proclaimed, "'Spongebob' doesn't have a single bad song. This was no exception. She doesn't need to apologize." Others still proudly sing "We've Got Scurvy" to this day, with u/Bubbly_Hat commenting, "Me and my mom still reference the scurvy song to this day." As much as Pink may regret appearing in "Spongebob Squarepants," there's no denying that she gave the tune her all and entertained countless fans in the process.
