"The Ringer," to say the least, isn't for everyone as it can be viewed as offensive. The film follows Steve Barker (Johnny Knoxville), a man who needs to come up with a plan to alleviate his debt. So Steve settles on not only competing in the Special Olympics as a participant, fixing the games as well. That storyline is more than enough to turn away most audience members, which we totally understand. Neither here nor there, Brian Cox, who plays Steve's dad, Gary, and Katherine Heigl, who appears as Lynn, also star in the film.
"The Ringer," unsurprisingly, given its content, didn't receive the best Rotten Tomatoes score ever, but it did receive a solid audience score on the site. Given the film's controversial subject, it's easy to overlook "The Ringer," but it, above all else, treats people with disabilities as people first. The film is, overall, a positive movie.
