In less than a month, you’ll no longer be able to catch a Megabus ride in the Quad Cities.The bus company is canceling it’s Chicago to Omaha route, which will eliminate stops in Davenport, Iowa City, and Des Moines. The company blames low gas prices, saying riders are instead driving their own car or booking flights instead of taking the bus. Sean Hughes, Director of Corporate Affairs for Megabus North America, tells Local 4 News: “Megabus.com is restructuring our network to reflect the changing travel patterns that we are experiencing due to historically low fuel prices, growing private and government subsidized inter-city coach operators, as well as rail services and low-cost airlines. We are very proud of our decade success of moving more than 50 Million passengers to more than 100 cities around the country. Megabus.com continues to evaluate routes and will make the necessary future adjustments based on customer demand.” Megabus started its service to the Quad Cities in January of 2015. January 9th is the last day for the Chicago to Omaha route.
