Two-time John Deere Classic winner Jordan Spieth announced Monday that he will miss the tournament again this year, but plans to return in the future.
“I’m sorry I won’t be at this year’s John Deere Classic,” Spieth said in a statement. “I love the tournament, I love the golf course, and, more importantly, I love the people. Clair (Peterson, John Deere Classic tournament director), his staff, the fans — the entire community — everyone involved makes that event such a special stop for the PGA Tour.”
Spieth did not defend his title in last year’s tournament, saying he didn’t think it would be appropriate to be playing in another tournament while the Olympics was going on after passing on a trip to Rio.
“While my schedule doesn’t permit me returning to the Quad Cities this year, I plan to be back in the future,” Spieth added.
Spieth won the JDC in 2013 and 2015.
