In the life-simulation Switch title Animal Crossing: New Horizons version 2.0, you can catch a total of 80 different kinds of fish. They include mahi-mahi, ranchu goldfish, snapping turtle, tilapia, betta, golden trout, rainbowfish, sturgeon, anchovy, suckerfish, and barreleye. As you can expect, these fishes will show up in different places and times, and even only be available to catch during a specific period of time. Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 – How To Fish
Of course, the first thing you need to do to go fishing is to get yourself a Fishing Rod. To craft one, set up your tent and speak with Tom Nook. You will then be able to craft a Flimsy Fishing Rod using his DIY Workbench using 5 Tree Branches. Get those Tree Branches by shaking trees or finding them on the ground.
Now to start fishing, simply find a dark shape in a pond, river, or sea. Then:
- Stand on the shore, press A to throw the line. Make sure it drops in front of the fish because if it’s too far away, it won’t attract its attention.
- If you do it right, the fish will poke the bait.
- Once the Fishing Rod’s float is submerged and you hear a sound it means the fish has bitten your bait and is ready to catch, rapidly press A.
- Usually, the fish will poke the bait 1-4 times before biting. If a fish pokes your reel four times without biting, it will bite the fifth time.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 – All Fish List
The in-game Critterpedia menu in NookPhone actually contains all the fish information you need in Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update. However, you have to catch them first before they show up in Critterpedia. Also, if there’s an owl icon near the fish’s name when you highlight it, it means Blathers already has the fish in the museum.
Note:
- River (mouth) means they show up in the area where the ocean meets the river on the shoreline.
- River (clifftop) means they show up in rivers on elevated cliff areas.
